I think what Ed is doing is sure to strengthen his program in a mighty way in the long run. Besides which, he is providing real data to the threadbare question "How strong are computers compared to humans at tournament time controls?" In any event, those (Rebel/GM) matches are more interesting to me than the recent knockout WC at Las Vegas. I am glad that at least one program vendor had the moxie to give it a go.
