You misunderstand. I'm not talking about taking part in tournaments. That's
always been open to us, except for national championships. I'm well aware of the
issues and politics involved, and I've written on it in the ICCAJ a few years
ago.

I'm talking about playing in the league. That's a team event with a whole-season
scheduled activity. There are many league divisions, starting with the national
league, and down to many minor, regional divisions. The competition is a
round-robin within the division, and each round takes place over 5 boards. Sort
of like college basketball, only much more exciting :)

Junior played with the Kfar-Saba team two seasons in the second league, and one
season in the national league, when it played 5th board (1st board was GM Vadim
Milov). It was then excluded by the league committee, and the Federation
confirmed this decision in October 1997. Junior will play next year in
Rishon-Lezion, where I expect the team will include Gelfand and Alterman, and
maybe Sophie Polgar.

No local organizer will have any say in this.
