Every program will have its attractors and detractors, friends, foes, and advocates. Crafty does compete with some success against the best programs in the world. I have posted messages with tournament records that prove my assertion. I have seen crafty slap CS-Tal [a professional program] absolutely silly. The professional programs like Fritz and Rebel, etc. have programmers who do nothing but develop their chess program. That's their job, that's what they do. Robert Hyatt, on the other hand, is a university professor. That means he has to teach class, write papers, and other things that go along with that job. Hence, he cannot spend the enormous effort that others do developing their programs. Despite this, the program is extremely successful. Crafty is (without a doubt) the strongest open-source chess program on the planet. The U2600 club was formed just because many new developers did not want to face crafty and yet wanted good competition. > I am afraid there is a lot more > people laughing at what you say and do than you think. Even Sierwan, in his on-line magazine, who is one of the best at *playing* programs, did not understand the magnitude of the power of Deep Blue. > The ones that don't laught, > will not know the different between foolish talk and what does make sense.
