You can do it with computer, humans or Grandmaster (GM) ;-) To use this feature you *don't* need a special setting or option or somthing else. Start your Winboard as normaly as you want play with a engine on a InternetChessServer. For example: winboard.exe /zp /ics /icshost chessclub.com /fd e:\Comet /fcp Comet-b55b and Login ;-) Now you're should use your game that you want to watch: observe <number> or follow <Handle> or something else. Ok, it's to active our engine: Go Options->ICS... Now you you see "Engine Analyse". *First* enable your Engine. Then you can do anything. Enjoy ! Settings: --------- *Options = Only interessting for chessprogrammer ------------------------------------------------ Enable Engine: Enable the complete function. You must do this first before you can active other settings !! *kill PV < <value>: Only send to icc PV's over the value. For examlple value 12: All engine output less then 12 will be dropped. Enable Analyse Window: Open the Anylse-Windows where you can see Nodes per Seconds and a lot of more... *whisper: Enable whispering to the the observeing game *Kibitz: Enable kibitzing to the observing game *Tell: Enable Telling to a Person <handle or channel> Be carefull with that!! For Experts: ------------ The analyse output is the same between whisper, kibitz and tell: .... <ProgramName> <depth> <score> <PV> ProgramName is the same that the program tells WB with the WB-Protocol. Depth is currently depth (see Analyze windows) Every move WB makes a reset to the engine, send all moves and say "analyze". So it's possible that you must wait a little bit before analyze start. Why this way ? I know a lot of WB programs. Most of them have problems with long analysis or backward moves or support. So its safty to go this way for all problems and you can be sure its works ;-) FAQ --- 1. Can i switch between normaly observe und engine analyse ? Sure, you can do this so often you want. The engine will be start new every switch. 2. Can i play matches with my engine before or after i watch a game with analyse ? Sure, you can switch so often you want. You must *not* restart Winboard or do something else. 3. Will the analyse settings be safe after a game ? Yes, you must disable your engine if you don't want analyse with the next observe game. 4. If i start my Winboard new or i make a reset i lost my settings ? Yes, that a problem. But i think this function will not be used every winboard start. So it's not importend for me to safe this option into a file. 5. My Winboard crahsed during a observe analyse ? :-( It's a beta. Please send a debug report (start wb with /debug) to the Winboard-Forum and/or to my e-mail adress. 6. Some setting are gray and i can't active it ? That's normaly ! Some function should be only used from a chessprogrammer. If you're one - mail me ! I think it's dangerous for ChessServer if anyone can post analysis with every program into every game, channel or handle (person). So, i hope you understand me :-) It's interessting enought for you with our own program output. Have a lot of fun.... Daniel Mehrmann
