Subject: very OT : Programming & Project management books & methods

Hi,

I know this is not chess related (except that I want to use what I learn in a
medium size chess project, but that's too remote), but since this is the meeting
place of very good programmers I thought I would ask my question here.

I am interested in developing my capabilities in coding/managing a medium size
C++ project. For this I am looking for books and advices that would be helpful.
I know that good programming practices like using design patterns and keepeing
separate things separate (using OOP) help greatly, but how does one _think_ this
project in such a way that when later it's easy to expand/maintain ? How to keep
everything well organized ?

I am currently browsing UML books as I sense there are some answers there, but I
am afraid it's not enough. My case is a bit simpler than it's given in those
books, i.e. for what I want to do it's more like a one-man-show, I am the coder,
I know where the project is going to go so I have to consult no-one regarding
the final outcome and the project constraints.

Any pointers, hints, advices ? Is there a book that helped you in a similar
situation ?

Cheers,
Andrei
