Don is also dead wrong and the wrong guy to ask anyway. He ran himself on big hardware and will never say it ran bad. Cilk was the most inefficient parallel programming language i *ever* saw. There is *zero* logfiles from a good compare of cilkchess without cilk single cpu versus cilkchess with cilk single cpu. The only comparision i know is that it was a bitboard program, getting single cpu at his PII266Mhz like 200k nps and when using cilk at a fast 64 bits processor 300Mhz it got just 5k nps. A bitboard program with very little eval. Crafty, also bitboards program i do not know exactly its speed in those days, but crafty had *more* evaluation and funky stuff than cilkchess and searched like 150k nps or so at the same PII processor. If i do bad on big iron i say it, but those guys never will.
