If anyone wants to add to >this list, feel free. Hello Ed, I am not sure what you expected: English is not the only language all over the planet. Italian, Russian, Dutch, .... All these languages have their own "rules" of pronunciation. And the truth is even more cruel: In many of these languages there is a better correspondance between writing and pronunciation than in the very conservative English orthography.
