Hi Paolo,

I don't mean your person with the comments in this message.

The GUI programmers have a lot of different opinions to different cases.

The first:
All is right!

Easy, the GUI programmer have own ideas and give the software to the group of
cusotmers, users. The user can say ... this isn't regular and the programmer can
say ... for me it is or for the situation we have I think it is.

Example:
ChessBase GUI managed the 5-pieces Nalimov tablesbase itself (not in search, but
if five pieces on the board). The users don't understand it and asked me ...

"Frank, what I have to setup in this GUI because the engine supported the
5-pieces tablebases. What do the GUI if the engine supported the 5-pieces
tablebases."

I say, you don't have to activate this option if you used UCI and WB engines
because the tablebase support is the job from the engine programmers. Engines
with don't support itself the Nalimov tablesbases have ... perhaps ... no
additiional knowledge in the program about it and this is the reason that the
GUI don't have to give the engine this support.

What I say isn't right because the GUI programmer made his decision.
In this case ChessBase made a decision and for ChessBase it's right.
Not for me!

This is only one example, I can give much more!

For a lot of persons which wrote daily in chess fora isn't important to
understand this, more important is to say ...

I found a bug ... :-)
The most like it to write this for some reason!

After all my knowledge:
If a person found a bug we have a bug report in our support forum or we got it
by mail (we have no problem with it to discuss in an open way to bugs, one of
the success secrets from Arena Chess GUI). The group of trouble makers like it
to set bug reports (the most aren't bug) in three or four different fora. For
what a reason ... a simple question each normal user can answer in selfwork :-)

The best what I read in the latest week:
Arena don't work of three machines here.
The user try an not tested beta versions.
The first step is to explain user what is a beta version!
The second step is to find out the bug!
And here we have a problem, no information about the bug :-)
No mails from other users about such a bug ... where are the 100.000 downloaders
with bug messages if Arena don't work :-)

I don't like negative publicity, don't support it but of course the Arena GUI is
more and more popular and we have to say thanks to the problem makers :-) This
is what I cann't understand, trouble makers try to make troubles with the result
that our GUI is more popular. This I wrote in the latest six years five trouble
makers by mail and four of the trouble makers send as answer "Arschloch". :-))

Jungs, Ihr habt das Thema verfehlt.
Müßt etwas geschickter vorgehen ...

The Arena GUI have different very good possibilitys:

Examples:
Engines / Tournament / Options
- Autoflag
- Adjudicate game

The idea is to play each eng-eng (not only tournament with more as two engines,
also eng-eng parings with only two engines ... AS TOURNAMENT.

In combination with the "Start / Quit", "Blunder check", and debug windows we
can very easy find out engine and of course GUI problems. This is one of the
main points in Arena Chess GUI because after our opinion the GUI have to give
all interesting users more as only the move information. Each information what
GUI and Engine do is important (not for the standard user, but the Arena GUI
will give also more details for the persons which have a little bit more
knowledge as 3D and chess teachter chess programm GUI user.

Much engines loosed on time for some other reasons!
A nice point to find out this is the "Check Legality" under
Appearance / General

With this activate option I find out a problem last week in an engine. This
engine loosed on time and gave the GUI wrong move information. The programmer
solved the problem and the engines works fine now.

Today in the evening I will public the ATL League A, round 5 results. In 380
games no "loosed on time games".

But ...
All is possible in such a complex GUI.
An other time control in combination with an activated options and "bingo" Arena
have a problem. At the moment I don't have such bug reports but after the
knowledge I have is all possible because ... the GUI is too complex. The reason
that Martin Blume have in the latest year the biggest interest to find out the
bugs. Where are the persons in the latest year which reported after the release
bugs, never read in mails or our fora?

Of each good questions we can give a good answer :-)

And yes:
We can speak about the "bug" if the programmer made a mistake.
But if the programmer have an other opinion we cann't speak about a bug.
A lot of users have to learn it!

Best
Frank
