2 things I would recommend:

1.) Search this site for SEE-related posts. There are a great many interesting
discussions about it.

2.) Check out
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/10.3.7/Chess-102.0.10/sjeng/see.c
for Sjeng's SEE source (how's that for alliteration?). It's quite instructive.
