But it is entering a set of existing definitions and applications also covering Chess960. PGN e.g. demands to a unique encoding of a game thus also for FEN. But Shredders way to encode positions into FEN depends on the view of its engine. It is different when created from its Chess960 or its normal view, if encoding positions, having only castling rights related to traditional K-R placements. Made proposals for compromising concerning FEN have been refuted all. Also it is not true, that a fully compatible UCI extension has not been possible. I have published a text, how to do this. But this document has had the goal to sweep away that argument for to use different FEN encodings. Which way SMK would take to extend his UCI protokoll is far less important compared to the need to keep compatibility to FEN and existing applications, databases and PGN viewers already enabled for Chess960. SMIRF beta could be tested by everyone. Those who are more interested could request a time limited key. But even without such a key, most functions will work and could be tested. It is usual to have shareware enriched with some nagging details, such is live. Reinhard.
