This has to be operator error, because there is *nothing* in win95 that will cause this behavior, other than setting hash tables a little too big and causing swapping... Of course if the operator happens to decide to run netscape to poke around on the internet while a game is in progress, anything could happen. I have run genius on my notebook under win95 and did not see any noticable slowdown over older non-win versions. Crafty performs pretty much identically under dos or windows, as it should, *so long as there is no other background activity in another window*...
