Do you suppose that it is possible that there are chessplayers out there who do not read or write English and cannot afford to hire a translator??? I suspect that the vast majority of excellent chessplayers have no access at all to the English language. In the former Soviet Union alone, there must be hundreds of thousands of strong chessplayers who know nothing about the english language. In Latin America, only a small percentage of the populace can communicate in English, but I have played many games of chess against them on ICC. The notion that having language channels would create a "Babel" IS babel [ie: utter nonsense.] People who can read english WILL participate in the english-language forum. No one will would be lost from the english-language forum by providing other forums in other languages.
