Matches of computer against great player attract more than a teeny bit of interest in this newsgroups. Evidence the Anand/Rebel battle. I know I would love to see the result of a 40/2 contest between any very good player and very good program. I am very sure that there are many, many others who are equally interested. I do think that the latest versions of the programs should be used, if at all possible and on the best available hardware. Machine verses machine tournaments are also very interesting to me. I like long time controls for any contest [and would perfer a KK KUP type ludicrously long time control as long as the moves actually get delivered in a timely manner]. It cannot be denied that the quality of play will rise dramatically with longer time controls [to the point where the exponential behavior dominates and additional time is wasted]. A question from a dullard [me]: "Is this GM Morovic the same Morovic who writes books on AI?"
