Open and closed are too simple categories anyway IMHO. But maybe it's sufficient
to answer that there is *no* opening setup against 1. e4 that forces a closed
position .. - the closed Ruy is one of the most reasonable tries.

This is obviously starting with the conclusion before looking at the data, but
even if this were true, I don't really get your point.
