Hmm , let us see logically - * Rumours get out that zappa release will not support UCI * Threats made that some people will not buy it if not supporting UCI * The reasons why the support will not be present are explained : in unnecessarily great detail actually - the programmers need not have done that : remember it is their creation and they are targetting mass market. But for politeness sake and due to respect for the forum members , they do that nevertheless. (I never see explaination like this given by chessbase , chessmaster , majestic chess , or any other gui for that matter , being presented here - but leave that aside). * No one disputes the main arguments. The issues mentioned have been known for a while , new ones keep geting found : and still nothing has been done about them (in some cases, w.r.t chessbase's buggy support). But from this point in - the 'flame war' goes downhill. * People get passionate and take generic accusations personally : when there was no need to. Rhetorical statements are just that - you have to take them at face value , not personally (unless someone is specifically named) * Some people want the UCI/WB2 support for running engines matches , etc - I do this personally too and would be great help to analyze engine to engine matches ! (but surely I am in the meagre minority !). If it was impossible to match zappa/other diep3d engines against rest of the world , I can understand the concern - there are ways to achieve this : (importing UCI engine , etc) - so why the fuss ? * Arguments presented that engine will not be able to play at playchess.com server - but whose problem is this ? They dont support developers by opening up their protocols : I dont see a fuss being made about all that. Here we have a bunch of 'native CCC members' who post here regularly trying to be transparent to this group - and what do they get ? flames , bad publicity , personal attacks , name calling , etc. They could have taken the approach that most commercials take - give publicity here through their 'hired posters' and not directly read this forum. Is that what we would want to happen in the end ? This would indeed be a sad place if we keep driving off all the people from here and would end up with few posters and lot of marketiers. - Mridul PS : I think I should not really be posting on this topic ... but had to make my stand clear I guess :)
