When a police officer sees something obviously illegal under way, he takes care of it first, and then asks questions to see if his initial action was proper. I only suggested that when you read the thing, you should have immediately removed it and emailed the poster to make certain that he had permission. If he did, he could have told you and re-posted the thing. I don't like the idea of leaving private email in a public place, while someone tries to determine if the email was posted with or without permission, or if it was posted by the actual author or someone else. Doesn't that make sense? "private" is "PRIVATE". Unless the original author chooses to make "private" into "PUBLIC". That was my point. When you originally read the thing, you should have canned it immediately and contacted the poster. That is what I would have done had it happened while I was a moderator. There are maybe a couple of circumstances where this could be violated. But this didn't fall under either umbrella... > >You can't insult me for "my" decision. I said "asleep at the switch" which is _exactly_ the right metaphor. You were at the switch, you read the email, but you were asleep and let it stand. I notice that another moderator said it has now been deleted, which is good. It _should_ have been deleted as soon as it showed up. It is ridiculous to ask for confirmation _here_ as that lets the original private email stay online as well, which is wrong. > >I think it's stupid to hold ME responsible and call ME names for a mistake that >slipped by all four of us. Simply means you didn't react in a timely manner. And if most people consider this "not a mistake" why did the post get removed? But in any case, legal issues are not subject to opinion poll. An action is legal or illegal based on the facts, not on public opinion...
