Subject: CCT Blitz? Some suggestions....

Hello everyone,

During the event it was asked if I would have a "blitz" version of the CCT
event.

Anthony Cozzie also brought this up in the following thread:

http://www.talkchess.com/forums/1/message.html?411561

People proposed the following choices:

1. 9 round DDR (Double Round Robin)10 0 tournament
2. 12 round DDR 5 3 tournament
3. 9 round swiss 25 0, 3 qualification tournaments, 10 programs in the finals.

Would anyone be interested in such a thing? It would be easy to do one of these
in a single day and would be very interesting.

Since quite a very people purchase or download chess programs to play online,
and the time control of choice is in fact blitz, this could serve some very
useful purposes.

We could try out different rules, pairing options, format changes, really
anything we wanted, and then apply them to the annual CCT tournament.

Once again it would be an authors only event, with no clones being allowed to
play. With the rounds being so quick, commentary would be difficult, so that
would be out.

Let's here some suggestions. We could easily arrange one for 5-6 months down the
road, and I am sure more participants would be there with it all happening on
one day.

Personally I would like the following format:

1. 9 round DDR 10 0 tournament.
2. Round schedule based on european time zones. Let North America be up all
night.
3. 3 tournaments total, with the top winners getting the top seeds at the next
regular CCT tournament.
4. Absolutely no operator intervention.

If anything we can kick around the can on the idea, and maybe something useful
will pop out.

I for one would be _extremely_ interested in such an event.

Peter
