I think that there should be some general interface that supports winboard or UCI programs for games with 2 computers so at least programmers who support the standard do not need to test their programs with some autoplayer. I know that winboard or UCI engines have no problem to play under arena and if I understood correctly Arena is also going to support the autoplayer so I guess that there will be no problem to do it in the future.
