Computers get crushed pretty badly playing strong players at correspondence chess. If I remember right IM Mike Valvo played (DT) in a 2 game match at correspondece chess. Mike crushed it even though DT was thinking many hours per move, and hitting 30 plies in its search. I remember reading how shocked the programmers were at how badly the program lost. Even if Deep Blue was playing I think the results would have been the same. This shows how much more room there is left to improve programs.
