The first tournament with Gandalf I remember was the WMCC 1993 in Munich (9
rounds, winner was Hiarcs).
Gandalf scored on rank # 21 (of 28) and won in the first rounds surprisingly
against MChess and Quest but lost the most games in the following rounds (e.g.
against Bobby II, Kallisto, Now and SOS).
At this time Steen had worked already 6 years on his program.
