If you hadn't constantly ignored the arguments presented, while distributing
your (by now) rateher tiresome subjective views handsomely in this thread, you
would know the requirements and the differences. The angle in theoretical
comparative research is the bit where you argue/prove why you've chosen to
include/preclude certain papers/articles/books. That is by no means simple. In
general that would require more sources than a narrow experimentally based
thesis. The difference between mastering the knowledge of the field in general
and in particular. Both are accepted.

In short. A comparative study with implementation and data, which is how I
interpret the thesis in question, is sufficient. Even in the intellectually
gifted kingdom of Denmark *cough*.
