In looking at the games I find some openings that are repeated many times. [D] rnbqk2r/pp3ppp/3ppn2/2p5/2PP4/P1P2P2/4P1PP/R1BQKBNR w KQkq - 0 7 This opening position occurred 31 times out of 193 games. In all 31 games Rybka had white and Hiarcs played black. Hiarcs scored 23 out of a possible 31 points. [D] r2q1rk1/1b2bppp/p1npp3/1pn3P1/3NPP2/P1N1BB2/1PPQ3P/R3K2R w KQ - 0 14 This opening position occurred 13 times. Again in all 13 games, Rybka had white and Hiarcs played black. Hiarcs scored 10 out of a possible 13 points. Perhaps the results of this match have as much to do with book selection (Hiarcs10.ctg for Hiarcs and Junior9.ctg for Rybka) and opening options as it does the Hiarcs engine parameters. In the Chessbase GUI, if you use a common book and make sure that "alternate colors" is checked for engine matches, then after every game the sides are switched and each engine will play the same opening with white, and then with black. Other book options worth looking at are "variety of play" and "influence of learn value" . Depending on what book is being used and what book options are chosen, you could find the same opening line being used many times in one match.
