Mig said, regarding chessbase, "Basically they feel the publicity and scientific
returns from comp-comp events have diminished to the point of negativity"

Translation, we are truly tired of getting our asses kicked by these new super
strong freeware programs, therefore, we have chosen to look for another angle.

Mig said, "Unless you're really into comp-comp chess, having an engine rated
2800 is no different from one rated 2700 or 2600. They all play humans about the
same because they play so differently from humans. ChessBase has already said
they are emphasizing interface and human training in the upcoming Fritz 9.
Comp-comp play is still somewhat interesting, but it's been a largely academic
exercise for quite a while now. That's not an insult, just the nature of a
mature, increasingly crowded, and now largely open-source area. They make small,
incremental advances that have almost no practical market utility now that they
are all so incredibly strong."

Translation, Chessbase "we have found that in our testing the new Fritz9 cannot
win a single match against the top freeware, therefore to justify further
purchases we must baffle you with bullshit.

This is so funny! A typical business seeing that they may be in trouble, so they
shift gears. True? I think so. Who remembers previous years when the chessbase
engines won the world championship. There was a huge write up on their website,
however, this year...nothing? This is a good thing as sooner or later, they will
need to up the bar, or move aside. Cheers, to Zappa and Fruit, Well done!
