Hello Terry, thanks for your mail. We did of course immediately correct the mistake in our accouncnemnt on www.chessbase.com. Fortunately we also managed to correct this in time for our adverts in the European chess magazines. As I wrote in my preivous mail there is simply no way to provide you with the engine that is mentioned on your DVD boox because it does not exist. So, we can only bag your pardon for this mistake. After all we are all only humans. I feel ChessBase should correct their mistake. It's good business to do so, and will only discourage customers if ChessBase doesn't compensate them in some way. Awaiting your reply. Thank You. Sincere Regards, Terry McCracken P.S. I'm not blaming you and realize you must be flooded with complaints, but ChessBase should IMO correct this rather glaring error, for it's cutomer base, it's the right thing to do. ----- Original Message ----- From: Steffen Giehring (ChessBase) To: Terry McCracken Sent: Wednesday, June 18, 2003 3:01 AM Subject: AW: I've Sent This Letter To Support, I'm Sending You A Copy... Dear chess friend, many thanks for your mail. Unfortunately there is a mistake in the text of the Junior8 DVD box. The Junior engine that played Kasparov in February was a version for multiprocessor systems only. In fact there is simply no single processor version of that multiprocessor engine. That's why the engine that played Kasparov is included on the DeepJunior8 CD-ROM only but not on the standard Junior8 CD. We bag your pardon for that mistake. Since there simply is no single processor version of that engine we will not be able to provide you with a fix/upgrade. Many thanks for your understanding. Yours sincerely, Steffen Giehring http://www.chessbase.com ChessBase GmbH, Mexikoring 35, 22297 Hamburg (++49)(40)63 90 60 10 -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Terry McCracken [mailto:nomad@easyfocus.com] Gesendet: Mittwoch, 18. Hello Again Hans, I have the proof that Junior 8 was advertised with Extra Junior Engines, at least one extra engine from the match! Two URL's are advertisments still up and one is a review on a commercial chess software site. http://www.chess4less.com/2-junior8.htm http://www.chesscenter.com/software2003.html http://www.bcmchess.co.uk/junior8.html If ChessBase would honor it's original statements, explaining Junior 8 came with two chess engines rather than one, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been doing business with you for awhile and have 9 ChessBase Programmes, 5 of which I bought from ChessBase directly. I want to continue doing business with you, and I also want you to honor your original advertisments. Best Regards, Terry McCracken Please honor your original advertisments as I was mislead by advertising on your site before you modified it, in my purchasing decision of Junior 8. Thanks! Best Regards, Terry McCracken =============================================================================== As it stands it doesn't look like ChessBase will help. Amir if you read this please give us your opinion. We know it's _not_ your fault, it's ChessBase's, but maybe you will listen...I hope so. There must be a better solution...maybe a patch for Junior 8 to recieve the extra engines in single processor formats? I think it's a good idea, but I'd like to hear from you! I think other buyers would like you to give your take on all this as well. Best Regards, Terry McCracken
