It looks that I am the only one here who is running Windows XP on both my home systems and was never hit with virus, nor ever have system crash because of OS bug. I had some problems with my notebook, that Windows Crash Analyzer was able to trace to the keyboard (!) driver provided by HP/Compaq. After installing newer driver version problems went away. I don't run any stand-alone firewall or router, just plain DSL modem. And yes: I am regularly installing software updates from Windows Update. Never caused any problems, probably because I am not running any advanced programs. I am average user and running Visual Studio, MS Office, Adobe Photoshop, some digital photo utilities, and CD burning package. Have lot of different stuff connected to the box -- modem, DSL model, external disk drives, external CD recorder, SCSI printer, digital camera, CF reader, etc. I don't know much about Windows internals. I am not Windows guru. I am not able to write all the scripts mentioned in that thread because I have no time to learn all those glorious details. I have more than enough to fill my head on my full time job, hobby project, family, etc. Thanks, Eugene On August 09, 2004 at 12:49:20, Christophe Theron wrote: >On August 09, 2004 at 12:36:36, Peter Skinner wrote: > > >(snipped) > > >For those of you tired with running a shit OS, there are viable alternative >available. > > http://www.distrowatch.com/ > >Announcement about the new Mandrake Linux beta: > > http://www.mandrakeclub.com/article.php?sid=2382&mode=nocomments > > > > Christophe
